Review: Sultra Bombshell Curling Iron

So my old curling iron was retired after a solid 4 years of use (pretty good considering it came from CVS).  I figured the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale would be a good time to invest in a nicer curling iron so I pulled the trigger and bought The Sultra "The Bombshell" 1.5 in Curling Iron

Now this curling iron comes with a storage wrap and glove.  After playing around with it I have to say I'm not a fan of the glove.  I have tiny hands and the glove makes it hard to grab and hold onto the sections of my hair while curling.  Also if you put the hot curling iron on the glove it will melt the rubber band in the wrist section (which happened to me).   So after that I kinda gave up on the glove and only burnt myself once so I'd say that's a success.

Let's talk pro-cons of the curling iron itself.  One con for me is it doesn't come with a clip attachment so if you are used to working with this it may take some time to get used to.  It also means you have to hold your hair in with your hand and this is how I burnt my index finger.  But after that I was much more careful.

Second con it doesn't come with a cold tip on the top (like my older one did).  This means if you touch the tip of the iron to your hear, ear, hand ect. it will hurt.

Possible Con you can't adjust the heat.  It's one setting.  Not really a huge deal for me because I have very thick hair, but if yours in very thin it could be an issue.

Pro/Con the curling iron gets EXTREMELY HOT.  I like this because my hair is thick and it curls my hair really well at that heat level.  Con if you accidentally touch it, ouch.  Also if you have thinner hair it might burn it (as stated earlier).

Pro it heats up very quickly.  Great if you are in a rush (my flat iron takes forever to heat up).

Pro the curls hold really well.  I've been using it without any styling products (besides heat protection and dry shampoo) and they last a few days.  Also note I have naturally curly hair that tends to hold shape easily.

Pro I really like the shape the 1.5 in barrel curls come out as.

My overall experience - I really like this product, and after playing around to learn the nuances of how to use it without causing injury I am very pleased.  The curls are nice, they hold well, and again once you get used to it its very user friendly.  I recommend if you are used to having a clip or cold tip play around with it off so you see how you have to hold it to avoid burning yourself.  I would definitely recommend this product.

Here are some pictures of my hair curled (sorry for the awful selfie quality of the first two).  In all photos the only product I used was heat protectant (my favorite is the Bumble and Bumble).

Happy Blogiversary

Is  Blogiversary a word?  I'm not too sure on that one... But I am sure (and somewhat in disbelief) that my blog is ONE YEAR OLD!

This past year has been a whirlwind of highs, lows, and every where in between.  I've gone from an intern in Washington D.C. to a college senior, tearing my ACL on bid night (hugging of all things) to graduating with honors.  I don't always share too much personal stuff with y'all here, but I want to let you all know how much I appreciate you all.  So much has happened and so much has changed.  Here are some highlights from this past year according to my blog!

How many banners did I go through?

I had a blast in Washington D.C.

SO MANY outfits

And I may have had a bit of a Baublebar obsession (or a major Baublebar obsession)

Here were the most popular posts form this year

And my favorite posts from this year

Can't wait to see what the next year has in store!

10 Fun Facts About Me!

Hi Y'all,

I can't believe that it has almost been a year since I started this blog on a whim one day (less than a month until my blogs anniversary)!  I've decided that since my blog has grown a bit since I started it that it might be a nice idea to do a more personal post today telling all of you a little bit about who I am!  I hope y'all like this, and if you guys want more content like this let me know in the comments below.

My first ever blogpost had ten fun facts about myself, and while a few of these have changed (I'm no longer a college student, no longer living in D.C., and my Tumblr url has changed)

So here are another ten fun facts about me!

1. I LOVE to cook!  I'm always looking for new recipes and recently I have become obsessed with making my own almond milk.

2. I love watching baseball and football (go Giants and '49ers)

3. I'm currently in the San Francisco Bay Area, trying to figure out what I'm interested in doing now that I have graduated college.

4. I'm not an early riser, but I force myself to wake up at 6:45 every morning so I can get my day started early. First thing I do after waking up?  Make a GIANT cup of iced coffee and turn on Good Morning America.

5. Speaking of coffee I am addicted, but only ever drink Iced Coffee.  I'll drink hot tea, but I rarely drink hot coffee (even in Boston winters). I was originally just going to post the first picture, but after looking trough my camera roll I realized just how many iced coffee pics I have.  Here are three highlights from winters past.

6. Foods you will always find in my kitchen?  Avocado and chocolate (I'm currently in love with Chuao's Maple Bacon Chocolate bar!)

7. I love HGTV.  Every show on HGTV.  I watch them all and constantly give unsolicited advice to my parents about fun home improvement projects.

8. My spirit animal?  Every Buzzfeed quiz I've taken says sloth or elephant, but I personally believe it's either Olivia Pope or Kimmy Schmidt (depending on my mood)

9. I love binge watching Youtube videos.  My favorites are clothing hauls, "What's in my bag" videos, and make-up product reviews.

10.  I'm incredibly friendly and love meeting new people!  I'd love to get to know more about all my followers and readers!  If you ever want to reach out you can email me at claireelise5@gmail.com or send me a message on Tumblr at prepinthesun.tumblr.com

Now share a fun fact about yourself!  I'd love to learn more about my readers!
